How Can I Help?

Become a Volunteer

Rose of Durham occasionally seeks volunteers for a number of opportunities including child minding, share and care room coordinators, bingo volunteers, and lunch coordinators.

Our agency is the only one in Durham Region servicing the unique needs of young parents (men and women) and their children, with the goal of achieving optimal mental health and positive outcomes for both parent and child.

If you are interested in becoming involved and would like details on our current volunteer opportunities, please email our Volunteer Coordinator at deneen.nolte@roseofdurham.com.

Donate items we need

Transportation is an issue for many of our young parents and not having  bus fare could mean missing a program, an appointment with their counsellor, and/or a much needed visit to our donation room. You can help. Purchase and drop off pre-loaded presto cards to our front desk any time. If you provide your original receipt, name and address you will even receive a tax receipt for it.

The agency also likes to reward participants for regular attendance, and one of the ways we do that is with $5 Tim Hortons gift cards. You can help. Purchase and drop off Tim Hortons cards in $5 increments at our front desk anytime. If you provide an original receipt, along with your name and address, you will receive an income tax receipt.

Donate money

Because of our recent merge between Rose of Durham and Catholic Family Services of Durham, please make all donations out to Catholic Family Services of Durham.  Please note that donations can be directed to the Rose of Durham division.  Click the link below for further information.

Donate in-kind

Donate New and Gently Used Clothing – Rose of Durham gladly accepts new and limited gently used clothing for young women (including maternity clothes), and clothing for children size 6 and under (in season please as we will unfortunately turn away items that are out of season due to limited space). In some instances we can accept baby and young toddler toys and equipment (no stuffed animals please).

For all donations you must contact the office first please to provide a description of the items you wish to donate, and to set up a specific drop off day/time.  Our donation drop off day for pre-approved items is generally every Thursday between 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

We very much appreciate and count on the support of the community; however, we have limited volunteers and space and we are only able to accept what our young parents need as well as what we have space for. If you are turned away, it is because we have space and manpower limitations that limit how much we can accept. We hope you understand.

For more information please email deneen.nolte@roseofdurham.com.

Layette Drive

This program has been around almost as long as Rose of Durham, 30+ years, and we always let the parents know that the layette given to them is representative of community support for them and their baby. Your support with this program helps us to live our vision of ‘STRONGER FAMILIES, BRIGHTER FUTURES’. Click here for more information.

Christmas

For too many Canadians, especially during these challenging economic times, the basic necessities of life needed for human dignity are out of reach. Rose of Durham provides direct, compassionate hands-on service to more than 400 young parents each year, to help restore dignity and hope to those who need it most. Click here for more information.
