Rose of Durham Young Parent Support Division is a young parent support centre that serves young parents and their children throughout Durham Region. Rose of Durham’s holistic programs and services include attachment-based parenting programs (group and individual format), supportive strength based counselling, high school program, life skills, social drop-in programs, and donation room services.
The Rose of Durham’s programs and services support young parents and their children to utilize their strengths and achieve their goals.
Our core service philosophy is:
1. Young parents are entitled to a variety of services with a range of options that best meet their identified strengths and needs.
2. Services are unified, flexible, responsive and accessible.
3. Young parents and families are at the centre of service planning; we encourage and support their involvement.
4. Services received are private and voluntary.
5. Services are delivered in a language that is understandable to young parents and families.
6. Services are free from discrimination and respond to the diversity within people’s lives, including being aware of the impact of societal views about family, sexuality, gender, age, class and cultural background.
7. Young parents and their support systems have strengths, that when nurtured and included in planning, can lead to effective and creative solutions.
8. The best place for a child, youth or individual to grow is within their family, provided that they are safe and nurtured within that setting.
9. Whenever possible, challenges need to be addressed in the areas in which they occur.
10. Providing services that are driven by the strengths and needs of young parents ensure effective outcomes for our families.
