Testimonials

Joanne

The Rose saved my life. It molded me into the parent I am today. It kept my little family together and provided me with comfort, care, self-esteem, and guidance at a time in my life when I was being judged on every front, and I didn’t believe we would have a real future.

I will never be able to thank the organization, or express my gratitude enough. I know that without you, there would be young parents with no hope, no evidence that there is a future within their reach, or belief that anyone cares.

I can honestly tell you, from the bottom of my heart, that you are all amazing and my family are but one set of lives that you have saved!

In 1991, I walked through the doors of the Rose of Durham at the age of 17 and it forever changed my life. The Rose became my second home. Literally, I was there every day!!

As a teen with a grade 8 education, and little hope of being a functional and good parent due to my family history, the Rose began to remold me into the person I am today. I took every class and program offered and started to set educational and life goals. I continued to go to the Rose until I was 21.

Now, almost 22 years later I have two college diplomas, I have had a very successful career in the counselling and educational field, and I have been sober for 20 years. I am married to a police officer and I have three children, a home, and a wonderful life.  That all started with the help of this amazing place.

The Rose of Durham will always hold a special place in my heart and I will be forever grateful for their support.
