School Program

This program is provided by the Durham District School Board through the Durham alternative school program and facilitated by a Certified Board of Education teacher. Young women are often referred to this program by their guidance counsellor, and attend classes at the Rose of Durham while they are pregnant, and until their child turns about 1 year of age. They are then transitioned back to a mainstream school, college, or
alternative program.

Classes are offered during the regular school year from September to June, recognizing all regular breaks such as Christmas and March Break as well as holidays, and Professional Development Days. Correspondence based lessons with the hands on support of an onsite teacher are provided. Two classes a week are provided, and students have the choice to attend either Monday or Wednesday 9:30 am – 2:30 pm. Each class holds around 20 to 25 young women, and each semester the girls transition into and out of the program.

Even when freshly washed and relieved of all obvious confections, children tend to be sticky.
